Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Adine O’Neill

Letter No.: VWL1600

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

[9 October 1939]

Dear Mrs O’Neill

What happened to my letter to the Times was this.  I sent it viâ Frank Howes & then the B.B.C. promise of amendment came the very next day.  So I tried to amend my letter – but the sting was gone out of it – so we decided not to go further.
I have been waiting my opportunity – but on analysing this weeks Radio Times I find only 8 hours gramophone records out of a total of 119 hours that is to say 1/14 – so we can hardly complain of that!
– I also see that more outside artists have been employed – so your letter has done good & to you is all the honour & glory!1
