Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Anthony Scott
Letter No.: VWL3965
The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.
28th January, 1953.
Dear Mr. Scott,
Thank you very much for your kind letter and offer.
If it would be possible to have two seats for the following concerts as near to the orchestra as possible, owing to my deafness, I should be very grateful.
Perhaps I can have definite seats for the following concerts:
Tuesday morning & evening
Wed: morning & evening
Thurs morning
Friday morning
and two Rover tickets for the rest of the programme & rehearsals.
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams
(R. Vaughan Williams).
Anthony Scott, Esq.,
Secretary,
Gloucester Festival.
1. VW had been offered seats for the concerts at the Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester Cathedral. The Tuesday morning concert included VW’s Dona nobis pacem and Thursday’s concert included VW’s Job.

Typewritten with manuscript additions in the hand of VW. Also a note in another hand ‘Nave Row 2AA 10 & 11’, presumably the seat numbers allocated.
Anthony Scott was the Secretary to the Festival stewards for the Gloucester Cathedral Three Choirs Festival (not the composer of the same name).
