St Paul’s Girls’ School,
Brook Green, Hammersmith, W.6.

Dec. 3rd, 1930.

Dear Evans,

I have looked through the score of V.W.’s Job and in my opinion it would have to be entirely re-scored for performance by a small orchestra.  I have told him so, and at present I do not know whether he would cue in or follow my suggestion.  He begs me to tell you that, if he is told in time, he would supply the fresh score if he thought it necessary, but he must be told as soon as possible if the work is wanted at all.  He is only part owner as the inventor of the Ballet has to be consulted also.  If the Camargo produced Job, V.W. would prefer them to do it in London first.
On December 12th we are trying over some new things of mine.  The performance will be very rough and the performers are all enthusiastic amateurs.  I do not like definitely to invite you, but if you care to come would you be here at half-past seven (entrance 48, Rowan Road).
Yours sincerely

Gustav Holst
