Dear V.W.,

Have you left a sweater, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, or Sark (not shirt) behind you here? There is great distress here because there is a nameless jersey left, whether yours or Wedgwood’s¹ is unknown … I went up Ben Tillett another way, just the other side of John Burns to where we climbed up together on the first memorable occasion. I have been to Miss Scott’s and had strawberries and cream. They had been very much impressed by you and your music. I hope you are enjoying yourself as much as you expected.
We are all in an anti-jam and anti-more-than-one-helping-of-pudding league, so help us God!

1. Raph Wedgwood, VW’s cousin. A group of friends from Cambridge University had a reading party in Skye one summer, and VW had returned before the end of the party.  Ben Tillett and John Burns were active in the labour movement; presumably the reading group had ‘christened’ some of the peaks in Skye.
