October 29 [1947]
Dear Mr. Sheppard
Many thanks for your kind letter. My husband asks me to write for him to say how much he appreciates your offer to send us a parcel – But you must not think of us as starving even from your prosperous land1 – If your parcel contains dried fruit – honey or jam he will enjoy these very much for he loves sweet things – he is well and at this moment hard at work correcting band parts.
Yours sincerely
Adeline Vaughan Williams
1 Victor Sheppard was in South Africa, and sent many parcels in the following months, while Britain was still under post-war food rationing. See VWL4360 and other letters to the Sheppards.
