The White Gates
Dorking
April 21 1949
Dear Mr & Mrs Sheppard
I hope this address will find you.
It has a familiar look – a sort of cousin to our White Gates. I wanted to write before but couldn’t bring myself to write just to a Post Office.
Now that the agony of the wedding – the Top hat & Tails business is over and I like to think of you getting more & more happily settled – I think a home after boarding houses & such must be heaven. We are sending you a book which may get to you some day – We know Bernard Shore the Viola player & like his writing and I hope you will too.
You have sent us another wonderful parcel which was very kind – but you send too much
My husband is better than he was – and is having a busy time preparing for our local Festival
He has been sitting to Epstein and now his head in bronze is in our room and I like it very much.
All wishes from us both to you both
A M Vaughan Williams
