Letter from Adeline Vaughan Williams to René Gatty

Letter No.: VWL4453

Weber’s Hotel
Dresden – A.

Sunday [3 April] 1898

Dear Herr Gatty
I was so very glad to have yr letter: we had already asked the Porter twice this morning whether there were letters for us & were beginning to fear that we shd not hear from you. The one you forwarded to R was from the Vicar not a reprieve alas –
We have decided to stay at the Leipziger Hof on Monday night. If you are not at the Anhalter1 when we arrive R begs me to say he will come straight to see you – We both must see the entzückendes Märkt – I read every word of your letter bar one – perhaps I may make that out on a 3rd reading. I wish I could send you a worthy German answer.
We have just survived 8 courses at Table d’hôte – The Gemälde Galerie & Dresden Amen took up our morning.
It is raw & wintry – all yesterday seemed to go in drying our clothes on the hot air pipes in our room!
I am looking forward to hearing all Yr news tomorrow.
Yours always
Adeline V. Williams
