Letter from Adeline Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter No.: VWL2079

September 1 [1950?]

Dear Gerald

It is wonderful to have your work – and very dear of Joyce to sew it together.1 Of course it will help beyond words to get an understanding however small when I turn on the radio.  I shall make an early start with the cricket news so as to tune in as well as I can. R has prepared me for something of what your music is.
This scrap is no more than to say thank you with my love to you both as always.

1. The first proofs of Intimations of Immortality, which Finzi had dedicated to AVW. See VWL2000.
On Tuesday 5 September (2.30-3.30pm) VW conducted his 6th Symphony and Sumsion conducted Intimations of Immortality in Gloucester Cathedral. The concert was broadcast on both Midland and West regions of the Home Service.
AVW may have heard, after the cricket scores, ‘Tunes for Everybody’ on the Home Service, which began with VW’s Folk Song Suite.
