[October 1909]

Dear Sir,

If my consent is necessary, I willingly give it to Miss Elwes to sing your setting of my poems, with the following proviso.1  I am told that some composers in setting some of my poems have omitted portions of them; and I will not give my consent (again supposing it to be necessary) to the singing of any poem so treated.
I am yours faithfully

A. E. Housman.
