Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ralph Wedgwood
Letter No. VWL207
Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ralph Wedgwood
Letter No.: VWL207
[6th August 1906]
My dear Randolph
It’s ridiculous of me to write to you again – but I can’t help it. It warmed the cockles of my heart to see you so happy on Friday – you always do everything in the best way – and I couldn’t imagine you different from what I saw you that evening. The more I think of that photograph the more I realize “la séduction mème” – Do marry at once and don’t wait that beastly 3 months – let all your knowledge of each other come after marriage & not before – that is so much better. Besides she’ll be 20 before you’ve been married a month as it is.
My vicarious engagement goes on its usual course – I couldn’t sleep Friday night & I can’t work – I took a long walk yest[erday] – the same nearly which you & I took – we are fated to meet Cantabs there – I met – Snoodler White! – but he didn’t recognize me.
Goodbye
RVW
[PS on envelope:]
I’m so delighted you met A.1 in Victoria Street.
1. Presumably Adeline VW. This letter follows shortly after VWL206, concerning Wedgwood’s announcement of his engagement to Iris Pawson.
