Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter No.: VWL2675

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

1st. April, 1953.

Dear Gerald

It occurs to me as a possibility that you might come here on Monday, the 13th. instead of the 14th.
We are having a preliminary rehearsal that day from 2-15 onwards, which means all most of the strings will attend, and we could give a preliminary run-through of your work1 before the full rehearsal on Tuesday.
If you could stop the night on Monday night as well as Tuesday we should see more of you, which would be a very good plan.
My love to Joyce
Love

Uncle Ralph

(R. Vaughan Williams).

Gerald Finzi, Esq.,
Ashmansworth,
near Newbury, Berks.

1. The work was Dies Natalis, given at the evening concert on the first day of the Leith Hill Musical Festival – Tuesday 14 April – conducted by Finzi with Eric Greene as soloist.
