Letter from Ursula Vaughan Williams to Michael Kennedy

Letter No.: VWL3347

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

[1st July 1956]

Ralph strained his leg, rolling the lawn, O dear, because I said it was too wet to mow.  It swelled up, Dr & specialist said it is phlebitis, & it was to be kept up – he’s had it for 2 weeks now, & its on the mend, but it means bed or chair which is maddening when he is absolutely well except from right knee to ankle!  Nothing to worry about, the doctor promises a complete recovery, but cannot estimate how many more days.

Crispin – his tearing upering1

1. The letter had been torn at the bottom by the cat Crispin. UVW’s comment is written over the tear.
